“The name and spirit of the Carrera are incredibly meaningful and emblematic for both TAG Heuer and Porsche,” says Frédéric Arnault, CEO of TAG Heuer.

The Carrera name is unusually emblematic to both brands, becoming the name of TAG Heuer’s racing chronograph in 1963 and 911 variants in 1972, with both influenced by the infamous Carrera Panamericana race. The Blue Edition is presented with both a fabric Porsche strap and stainless steel bracelet, while the Red Edition is secured on a red alligator strap with gold pin buckle. Both pieces are powered by TAG Heuer’s Calibre Heuer 02 chronograph movement with 80-hour power reserve and a custom winding rotor taking the form of Porsche’s three-spoke steering wheel. The 42mm tricompax chronographs are offered in stainless steel – the 500-piece Blue Edition – and 18K rose gold – the 250-piece Red Edition. TAG Heuer has selected two of the 27 vivid colors that the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was offered in – red and blue – to recreate the branded livery that ran along the side of the pure white cars and now flows down the caseband of the new individually numbered limited-edition chronographs. In the next few decades, the Carrera would grow out to become one of the icons of the watchmaking world.To celebrate five decades of the 911 Carrera RS 2.7, TAG Heuer is launching two limited edition Carrera models, transposing memorable design features of the car to the watches. A then new type of tension ring became of vital importance to the design: it allowed him to print scales on the ring that secured the plastic crystal to the case, making it possible to leave the dial as clean as possible. When creating the Carrera, he does sought to create a chronograph that was easy on the eyes and easily readable. When wrist chronographs began to become more and more popular, Jack noted that many of them had very busy dials that were at times hard to read. While this race was cancelled off in 1955 due to the high number of accidents, the name nevertheless stuck with Jack Heuer and he registered the Heuer Carrera name for later use.Īs stated in his autobiography 'The Times of my Life', Jack Heuer was a great admirer of modern design. It was designed by Jack Heuer himself, who got the inspiration for the name in 1962 when talking to the parents of Mexican racing drivers known as 'the Rodriquez Brothers', who mentioned to him the grueling Carrera Panamericana Mexico race. The Carrera was originally launched in 1963.
